Katie & Joe

July 27, 2021 by Chatham Station

A doctor at Duke and a nurse practitioner fall in love and want to get married. No problem. Enter the pandemic and things have to shift a bit. For for Katie and Joe this meant two years of planning and then postponing until they married last year in a private ceremony. For the more formal ceremony and celebration, the couple came to Chatham Station, and we were thrilled to host them.

Prep Time

Katie’s dress – a flowy gown with lace details and side cuts – looked amazing on her and she had both her mother and grandmother there to help her prepare and become even more lovely. Her bridesmaids were sweet and supportive and the bride had each lady choose her own style of dress to suit their individual personalities and tastes. The results were elegant!

Katie and Joe have a Goldendoodle named Noodle, who should probably go ahead and get an east coast agent. She’s delightful. It was important to the couple that Noodle be a part of the day, and boy was she. This little fluffy heart-stealer wound her way through the guests to give kisses and have her photo taken every chance she got. She had great energy and added a lot of innocent joy to the day. During prep time, the bridesmaids created a transformation TikTok to the Disney song “Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo” and Noodle wanted to be a part of it, even running into the frame while filming. She was the cutest!

The Ceremony

Katie and Joe said their vows against our fan wall with the herringbone background flanked with lovely greenery. Joe was visibly emotional watching Katie being escorted to him by her father. Even though they were already married, the moment still held so much magic. These two have a TREMENDOUS support crew/wedding party and they helped increase the wattage on an already pretty luminesce occasion. These two are deeply loved and it was palpable.

When the ceremony was over, Joe was excited to show off his wife, as the wedding party cheered.

The Party

For the reception, Joe changed into comfortable Jordans because he was ready to party. Their first dance together was special and during the evening, they took time to toast and congratulate the grandparents on so many happy anniversaries.

Photographer Alicia Quintanar took advantage of the weather to capture images of the bride, groom and their sweet cheerleaders against the painted brick wall we have near Chatham Station. It’s a favorite backdrop for clients and we know why.

Congrats to the Trophy Spouses

All the best to Katie and Joe on the big life they have before them. We loved hosting you all!

Lauren & Michael’s Intimate Ceremony

October 13, 2020 by Chatham Station

This lovely couple, like countless others, had their March 2020 wedding plans derailed when the pandemic made its way to our shores. After meticulously planning their wedding with the help of Trent and Ashley of Something Fabulous Weddings and Events, they kept as many of those details and choices intact and decided to go ahead with their ceremony, if on a much smaller scale.

Lauren is a professional writer; Michael works in the corporate world and they moved to the Triangle from Michigan where they fell in love with Chatham Station’s minimal elegance after getting engaged. Of course, we were thrilled to accommodate any plan they had.

The Intimate Ceremony

Even during this uncertain time, during their ceremony the couple heard the calming voice of Officiant Ann McKenzie. They were flanked by Lauren’s sister and Michael’s brother as they greeted each other and said their vows. Lauren’s father not only escorted her down the aisle, he treated the couple and their small gathering of guests to a serenade. It was a surprise and an incredibly sweet moment.

Special Details

While the wedding was scaled back, there was no shortage of tender moments, including Lauren’s first look with her father.

The bride, her mother and her sister-slash-maid-of-honor, all prepared in our changing rooms where they were able to capture little moments. Lauren’s gown was a stunner – a white gossamer and timeless number with an open back, plunging neckline and long veil. The layers in her dress were sublime.

The couple also shared a first touch instead of a first look, where they shared notes they wrote for each other and were able to laugh a little and reflect before the ceremony.

After the ceremony, the small party of mostly family and some friends grabbed some indoor portraits and then the couple accompanied their photographer Sarah Reaves for a stroll around downtown Cary, where they took exquisite outdoor photos in pretty spectacular springtime setting.

Lauren and Michael are proof that you can tailor your larger vision when things in the world shift sideways. Where we cut back on guests and decor there was an enormous amount of heart present on this day. Tears flowed and the couple were made to feel that their new beginning was as special as the even the largest, grandest wedding.

Megan & Ric Keep it Sleek…

September 22, 2020 by Chatham Station

… and beautifully simple. This couple scored points on several fronts, most notably that they executed an elegant and minimalist wedding that felt chic, and they married in March of this year (March 14th to be exact) before the Covid pandemic brought people’s plans and lives to a grinding halt.

The Couple

Megan and Ric are a study in contrasts. She is straightforward, organized and funny (notice the sign about cell phone photography displayed at the ceremony: direct and sweet). Megan likes to tell a story about how she saw Ric while out with friends and knew that he was someone she wanted to know better. He is more subdued and content to be Megan’s adoring partner.

The Ceremony

On the day, Megan donned her gorgeous gown off-site, while Ric dressed and prepared in one of our dressing suites.

The bride appeared through white sheers to meet her groom, and the couple said the vows they wrote for each other in front of a copper arbor from Homemade Bride. With minimal floral additions, the effect was warm and intimate.

Reading her vows: short, sweet & personal

The Details

Megan and Ric took advantage of sites near Chatham Station to create special images with their photographer, including stops at the nearby Mayton Inn, at a mural just a few blocks away, and at Sidebar where they shared drinks with their wedding party.

Megan chose seafoam as a primary color and it was both striking and clean when combined with the textured whites and minimal greenery. From the table linens to Ric’s tie, everything was beautifully coordinated. Because Megan finds floral arrangements distracting at weddings, she decided to skip them altogether.

Instead of cake, the guests were served pies, it was Pi Day after all. These were displayed on a variety of cake stands on a blue buffet rented from Homemade Bride.

We sent the couple off in style after a reception that had lots of dancing, toasting, and celebration.

Amanda & Max Make “Minimal” Gorgeous

August 5, 2020 by Chatham Station

“Love in the time of COVID” has become a meme, and sadly a refrain during the spring and summer wedding season. For Amanda and Max, their  June 2020 wedding plan involved making some editing and moving forward – together.

Originally, the couple hoped to include 100 of their favorite people as part of their big summer wedding party, but when the pandemic brought us all to a halt, and an effort to reschedule in August also fell through, they reframed their goal and made it happen.

Pre-Wedding Moments

Both bride and groom added some finishing touches in our dressing suites and then the bride shared a first look with her father before he escorted her down the aisle to Max.

The Ceremony

In order to stay in compliance with state regulations and health guidelines, Amanda and Max reduced their wedding party to one attendant each and kept the guest list to a minimum. They had a moving sand ceremony to signify their union. The result was intimate, sweet and without the noise and chaos that can come with a larger event. With the help of their vendors, there was an enormous amount of beauty in just 90 minutes.

Details

These two looked amazing, with Amanda in a minimal, form-fitted and stunning gown and all white floral bouquet, and Max in an elegant navy suit. The backdrop for their vows, and the aisles, held small simple bunches of rich greenery. The result was sophisticated and elegant.

Wedding photographer Brittany Cruse worked absolute magic at the venue, using furniture and positioning the couple with care and creativity.

The Future

Happily, scaling back did not mean cancelling, and we are thrilled to say that Chatham Station will be the venue for a party in June of 2021 to celebrate Amanda and Max’s first wedding anniversary. Congratulations to you both!

Liz & Asa’s Spring Wedding

February 19, 2020 by Chatham Station

The Couple

“We had nothing but trust and a rendering, and the venue exceeded our expectations.”

Liz and Asa were our first couple! They hired us to be the venue for their April 2019 wedding, and signed a contract no less, even though Chatham Station was still under construction. That show of faith is just one example of what makes this couple the very epitome of kindness and thoughtfulness. Their support of Cary and the surrounding area extended not only to us, but they kept their vendor choices as local as possible too.

The Ceremony

Couples who marry at Chatham Station have options, and some prefer to enter through our bay doors to an aisle indoors. Liz chose to be escorted outside to Asa and onto our patio, and it was an elegant choice for a spring wedding.

We opened several bay doors, and as the bride and attendants emerged, there was a light April breeze lifting the sheer curtains. Guests sat on benches, runway style, facing the bride and groom and the custom geometric backdrop they chose with boho-inspired florals was a perfect choice. The weather and temperatures were as if ordered specifically too.

The Reception & Details

A Gown in need of a Bride…
Welcome to the New World of Marriage!

This couple was treated not only to sunshine for their vows, it shined on them through the bay doors during the reception where they were treated to adoring toasts from their friends. They entered the reception dancing and wanted guests seated toward the smaller side of the interior so that there was plenty of room for others to dance later as well.

The flower arrangements were thoughtfully designed to fit the aesthetics of the venue, and the couple’s “memory table” with family photographs was also embellished with artful floral choices. Liz and Asa made every spot a place of inclusion and celebration.

Like other couples who are married at Chatham Station, Liz and Asa had their photographer, in this case the amazing and local Morgan Caddell, capture images of them downtown, beyond our wedding space. We encourage this as a part of showcasing your big day and taking advantage of streets scenes, historic architecture and murals.

If their faith in us is even a fraction of their faith in their love and each other, then we expect these two to have decades of anniversaries in their future. Thanks Liz and Asa for letting us host your big day!

Kat & Kyle’s Intimate Wedding

February 5, 2020 by Chatham Station

The Couple

Kat and Kyle are an adorable pair who tied the knot at Chatham Station just around Thanksgiving, in November of 2019. With Kyle’s Southern charm and Kat’s incredible Colombian warmth and unbridled enthusiasm, they were celebrated on a perfect day, even one that came with a little rain.

Kat’s young daughter was a big part of their day and enjoyed getting dressed up along with her mom and members of Kat’s immediate family in our dressing suite. Kat herself loves to be busy and was really struggling not to jump in to assist the Chatham staff.

The Ceremony

These two kept their ceremony intimate and very traditional. They chose to have a first touch rather than a first look. They also kept the guest list small, with only their families and closest friends.

For the ceremony, gorgeous live music was provided by a string trio, and they chose a large floral arch to anchor the space for their vows.

After the I Dos, the new family walked back down the aisle together. Kat’s daughter was thrilled to be such a special part of the ceremony and day.

The Reception

Husband and wife entered their reception through a bay door, greeted and thanked their guests and enjoyed an evening of dancing and celebrating. During the cocktail hour, the live string trio that played for the ceremony also played for mingling guests, as well as for the couple’s first dance as Mr. and Mrs Nance.

The lush floral ceremony arch was repurposed for the reception as backdrop for the sweetheart table. Kat’s younger brother acted as DJ, which she loved.

The non-traditional wedding dessert: tiered and drizzled bundt cakes!

We loved hosting their special evening. All the best to Kat, Kyle and cheers to new beginnings!
